January 2023 - August 2023
Manufacturing Engineering Intern
Irvine, California
Skills Summary
CAD/CAE Tools: CATIA, 3DExperience
Manufacturing Engineering: Jig/fixture design, assembly process development, torque tooling validation
Documentation: Job Element Sheets (JES), process sheets, work instructions
Focus Areas: Process optimization, prototype build support, virtual clearance studies
At Rivian, I contributed to scaling up electric vehicle production by supporting the General Assembly line through fixture and process optimization. My role centered on improving manufacturing workflows and ensuring tooling compatibility across complex assemblies. I designed and sourced specialized jigs and fixtures using CATIA, allowing the team to adapt quickly to design changes and streamline assembly operations.
I played a pivotal role in documentation, developing over 200 Job Element Sheets and 30 process sheets, which were adopted by the launch build team to assemble more than 50 prototype vehicles during the early production ramp. Additionally, I performed torque tooling clearance studies for chassis assembly, validating designs against real-world constraints and reinforcing both safety and reliability in the manufacturing process. This experience sharpened my ability to connect CAD design, assembly documentation, and process validation in a fast-paced automotive environment.
June 2022 - December 2022
Mechanical Engineering Intern
Fremont, California
Skills:
CAD/CAE Tools: SolidWorks, PDM
Robotics & Automation: End-of-arm tooling (EOAT) design, prototyping for robotic systems
Quality Engineering: GD&T application, tolerance analysis, fixture/jig validation
Focus Areas: Solar module manufacturing, automation optimization, design-for-manufacture
During my internship at Tesla, I worked on the Solar Roof manufacturing team, where I focused on advancing production automation for next-generation solar modules. My primary responsibility was redesigning end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) for robotic systems, ensuring they could handle evolving solar module geometries. The modifications I implemented reduced robot cycle times by 1.5 seconds per part, which translated to significant throughput gains across production.
I also supported rapid prototyping of assembly components to test new manufacturing concepts, which helped the team identify and integrate efficiency improvements. Additionally, I developed a strong foundation in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), applying it to fixture and jig designs used in quality control. This allowed for more precise inspection and ultimately elevated the consistency and quality of solar module production.
May 2021 - August 2021
Mechatronics Engineering Intern
Oakville, Ontario
Skills:
CAD/CAE Tools: SolidWorks, PDM
Mechanical Design: Prototyping, DFMA, automation hardware development
Focus Areas: Food automation systems, startup product development, version control for design teams
At Gastronomous Technologies, a food automation startup, I worked on the mechanical design of an automated dispensing system designed to streamline operations in commercial kitchens. I developed both structural and basic control components in SolidWorks, helping bring the concept from early-stage design into a manufacturable product.
A significant part of my contribution involved cost reduction, where I evaluated suppliers, sourced economical alternatives, and modified designs to reduce production expenses without compromising performance. To enhance collaboration, I implemented PDM and version control practices, which improved design traceability and allowed the team to work more efficiently across multiple prototypes and iterations. This role provided me with valuable experience in design-for-cost, early-stage prototyping, and product development within a startup environment.
